The button, the needle or the thread?

No 6 landed this book deal a while ago and I helped her edit it - she gave me a credit on the acknowledgment's page. When her book came out, I was traveling a lot so I'd stop by the local BN in town and buy up a few copies. Ended up buying 'bout 50 $!#@$ copies.

I've not been sleeping so I've been reading it. It's weird cause I never read the finished product. It's like I hear her voice and some words of mine in the pages. But it's not bad. I know how the stories all end.

Diogenes the Cynic
was this whackjob that used to walk around in the daytime with a lamp looking for one honest man. Never found one. Honesty's easy when you got nuthin on the line. Y'find out who's honest and who's honeytounged when you do.

Now, even when I don't wanna hear the truth, I wanna hear it.

Me: Why do I feel you're not being honest with me?
Her: (pause) Because I'm not. I've got to go. (pause) Don't be angry. I wish everything were easier.

Man, who doesn't? With the exception of Heartgirl, I never know if I'm making time, killin time or spending time. Can't be a hypocrite, it cuts both ways. Still, never know if I'm the needle, the thread or the button til it's all over.

Speaking of Heartgirl, she's going away for a bit. I'll miss her. Interestingly, she may actually have said something nice to me recently.

Me: It's not like you like me for my brains.
Her: It's why I like you.
Me: For the first time ever, I'm confused as to whether or not you're being sarcastic.

Man, I wish I knew how my stories end.

Huh. Begs the question doesn't it. I used to be honest becasue it was the "right thing to do." Then I was honest because I'm a really bad liar. Now I'm honest because I don't really care if someone's going to take offense or not. And also because I still can't lie. It earns me respect from a few people and broiling hate from many so . . .

Dunno if I'd read an ex's book. I keep all the letters and such but I never look at them again. I haven't even checked up on the guys in highschool I wasn't exactly involved with. Don't think I could handle an entire book written by an erstwhile lover. Especially if I helped.

After a while, you separate the person you knew from everything else. It's just a good book to me now.

The only weird thing is that her picture is on the back cover, so that's a bit odd, but otherwise...

Your words come from your brain, so I think we all like you for your brains.

Whether people are being truly honest is something that is constantly on my mind... and I hate it when I hear honeytoungued-ness.

Did you keep the 50 copies? Why did you buy so many?

Well, it was more in silent support. I bought copies here and there to up her sales. Stupid, I guess.

Still, now I've got books galore.

it's not the conclusion, but the journey that's the fun part!

Arguably true - and it's like I take notes from the field to tell you all about it.

Is the book interesting? Seems like it would be kind of dry material...unless you're trying to bore yourself to sleep. ;)

I've been reading again now that the semester has wrapped up. Of course, I'm reading my old standby: YA fantasy. I tear through one in a day of solid reading. The main character of the current series has a special bond with animals. She can talk to them, get into their heads, even become one. Talk about honesty...while the main character never knows what the humans are really up to (she is shockingly bad at reading people), she always has an amazing view of the world because the animals never lie and they can go places people can't.

I do know how this story ends. I read a later series first and this main character is in the wings in that one. I find the ending really isn't the important part...it's how they got there that's interesting.

Well, it's an aspect of the law that I'm interested in so I find it entertaining.

I agree with you but I'd still like to know how the stories end.

D'ya ever feel like the message you're sending isn't the one being received by your female pursuits? You know you want to find that one, end the whirlwind of new people who'll drift in and out of your Venn diagram... But are they hearing that message when you're with them?

Sorry, i not being critical. This sort of thing is on my mind cuz i have a friend who sends crossed signals. I tell her, "Wow, guys are reading this signal off of your." And she's like, "OMG, that's not what i'm trying to say at ALL."

Goodness, all the time. I think that many of my relationships are just a string of miscommunications.

Heh, btw, I'm honest like you... Even if it hurts, and results in reaaaally, reaaaally painful loss, I can't stop it from spilling out. >.>

I'm not a liar, but I must admit, I've left a trail of broken promises in my wake...

While riding my bike to work, it occurred to me that so much of the things I do are just distractions. I'll have to blog about it.
