Blessed are the forgetful

Her: I forget a lot of things.
Me: I envy you. Nietzsche once said, Blessed are the forgetful, for they get the better even of their blunders. I never forget anything.
Her: I'd never want to remember everything. That'd be terrible.
Me: (nodding) It's why I'm an insomniac.

Caligirl's getting married.

For my longtime readers, she was also the girl in this entry. She's everything I'm looking for in a girlie. Yet I don't love her. Least, not in the way she wants. Dunno why that is, but that's as it is.

As a kid, I remember reading about Soma in A Brave New World and wondering why anyone would wanna forget stuff. Not a kid anymore. There's no Soma in NYC. There's no River Lethe. That part I knew. But I'm also finding that there's no SING. No girl on the east side missing a heart.

There are, however, any number of fine (and not so fine) drinking establishments in the big city where they'll serve me my favorite poison on the rocks with a big slice of orange for $14 a glass.

I know cause I went to two of them Wednesday and Thursday nights with any number of girlies, some very random, some very specific. The weekend forecast looks similar. They'll have to do.

Suspect I'm not invited to the wedding.

I'm an insomniac cause I lie awake remembering. I'm so talented at it that I even remember things that never happened, people that never existed.

Music: Why so scared of romance?

Do you know that Peter Pan couldn't (yes, *couldn't*, not wouldn't) grow up because he didn't remember? "Neverland makes you forget." You see, he didn't remember being hurt or betrayed, so he never had to mature to handle it. The huge problem (that Wendy discovered) was that he also never remembered the good things and sweet moments, so he never matured to love.

I think there is a happy balance between being an insomniac elephant and being a Peter Pan...

I'm surprise you ended up in the place above... Doesn't seem like your scene at all.

But then again, it's not like I really know you...

Well, that's actually where I ended up last Saturday night. Last night I didn't have Syd with me so no pictures.

It's a pretty place.

That place looks interesting and $14 a glass? What is your poison? Oh yeah...I assume everything is highly priced in NY?

It's called Maru and it's a Korean karaoke join in midtown.

Few places actually have what I like, which is Cruzan Single Barrel Aged rum. So good. I settle otherwise.

I'm often settling.

Probably! Although it does have portions that are larger than others. Unlike the food, which I find to be small no matter what.

I'm among the blessed. No fun trying to reinvent the wheel all the time.

The result might be similar, though. Inventing things that never happened, people that never existed...

i haven't read a brave new world, but I'm definately going to try to find a copy. It sounds just like the type of thing i enjoy reading. Have you read Lois Lowry's The Giver. Kinda sounds similar. Its a children's book, and only 174 pages but its got huge huge ideas in it that will blow your mind.

Remembering is hard. It is a burden, the best any of us can do is to try to let our burdens go, and go on without them.

I hope you will find someone that you really love. Even if she's everything you're looking for, if your hearts not in it, thats universes way of preventing you from spending the rest of your life with someone thats not right for you and giving you a chance to find the right person.

I've not but I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm in the bookstore looking for something to keep me entertained.

I'm older than you and I still don't know. But if I find out, you know I'll tell you.

I too remember too much, but I sleep just fine. It's not about what you remember so much as what you chose to believe. If you remember you fucked up and believe you're an asshole, you won't sleep. If you remember you fucked up and decide not to fuck up, at least in that way, again, I find I go to sleep quite quickly.

Also . . . I know you love your rum, but alcohol never did much for sleep for me. Did a lot for embarrassing situations. Not so much for sleep tho'.

Not to rub it in, but as is my wont I can't help myself . . . Caligirl's beau loves her I assume? And you couldn't? So you really don't have a leg to stand on. I know exactly how much that sucks, but he was serious about her so . . .

So you really don't have a leg to stand on.

I'm not sure what you mean - I still don't love her romantically. It wouldn't be fair for me to lead her on otherwise.

Most things are about $10 with tip. This just for my particular brand of rum and my particular bar.

Most of the time, it's just Captain and diet Coke. Very uninspiring.
