Brick Wall




 
Me: You can do this. You've done it before, you survived. You can do it again. You just gotta be a brick wall.
Her: What does that mean?
Me: Two things. First, a brick wall doesn't cry, it doesn't beg, it doesn't plead, it doesn't do anything. It just is. A brick wall does what it's supposed to do - without compunction, without complaint, without contempt. A brick wall's built for pressure; you're built for pressure.
Her: And second?
Me: Second is it doesn't give anything away. you can read a face, you can't read a brick wall. Keep it together. People're relying on you. You're relying on you. Don't ever let him break you down. A brick wall doesn't break; everything else breaks against it.
Her: (quizzically) I'ma brick wall?
Me: Yeah, you're a goddamned brick wall.
Her: (deep breath) I'm a brick wall.
Me: You're stone.

This just sent shudders down my spine. Just recently, and I think for the first time in my life that wall didn't hold up. I’m actually glad I let it break this time, even tough rebuilding it isn't always fun.

Still, great pep talk.

Hmm, how did I come across your page. Well, I'll age myself here...but when I use to log on to AA, I use to read Hipstomp's Love in a 10-Block Radius. Fast forward to 2004 or 2005 (not too sure), I happen to stumble upon Hipstomp's LJ. I was just roaming around his page and of course, typical Ri, I would forget that it's online and stopped reading. Fast forward to now, I remembered it once again and one mouse click led to another and I ended up at your page.

I just re-read that, and I was trying to condense it to a few words, but hey, I'm not perfect and I can ramble on and on.

back in law school, being a brick wall actually scared me. these days being the brick wall isn't so bad.
