September

Busy week. My rule to never say no to an invite came back to bite me last week. I was out every night after returning from Baltimore. Both my liver and my wallet hate me.

I saw a curly-haired girl from NYC, a grey-eyed blond from down south, and a brunette dancer from Berlin. That last one I briefly thought was anf322, who was visiting, which is how we met.

All are attractive but one is painfully so and not just physically.

For the first time in months, I find myself thinking about one particular girl. I'm trying not to dwell on it her too much, but it's not easy.

Still, Fall's my favourite season and I was alone(ish) last time around. Some company this year would be nice. Not absolutely necessary but nice.

Hey, when does your year start? Does it start in January like most people? Or on your birthday?

Or September? Mine starts in September. Probably cause I was a student for so long.

And when you're a fat, clumsy, geek, no one calls you to come out to play over summers. Plus camp's for people with spare scratch.

For kids like me, summer's just three months of solitude.

I can't hardly wait for Fall to come.

Seriously, bring it, bring it, bring it...

Fall's my favorite too. And yes, my year starts in September...i get all excited about the burgandy and plaid clothes, and orange leaves.

ny is also beautiful in the fall.

I don't think there's any place better to spend the fall than NYC.

I like the orange myself...

Minnesota! The Riverbanks are very steep and filled with the most amazingly colored trees. Or you can go for a drive up north (early in the season) or south (later in the season) to be awestruck. You also can't miss the leaves burning. That smell on a crisp day is what I hope it smells like when I die.

there's this one line in You've Got Mail about fall that absolutely drives me nuts that it's in a Tom Hanks / Meg Ryan flick. bad enough that i admit to liking the movie, but the quote went along the lines of "fresh sharpened pencils."

the year starts now.

Thanks for reminding me - you know that entire movie was shot around my neighborhood. I just had coffee at Cafe Lalo yesterday!

Here, for you:

Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address. On the other hand, this not knowing has its charms.

I've been outta school for ages but I still start my year in September. I think I always will.

Yes, the change in seasons is one more reason I don't think I can leave here.

My year definitely starts in the fall. It always signaled new beginnings when I was younger with school and all that, and it's always been my favorite time of the year.

I think a lot of people are like us in the US. Something about the fall reminds us of us as kids.

You know, I can smell the fall in the air and I cannot wait!

My year hasn't ended for around 6 years. Since I started college, I haven't had a real vacation to tell you the truth. Summers would either be studying it up to gain more credits/knowledge or taking a 6-8 month internship to avoid school. I use to consider work a vacation from school. I'm not even a workaholic.

"For kids like me, summer's just three months of solitude."

Agreed, back in the day.

I think we all carry a lot of baggage from our childhood to our adulthood.

In fact, it's probably why I don't think of myself as all that much of an adult.

Fall is my favorite for oh-so-many reasons (lucky I was born in it!).
Even after school, I'd get the September-August daily planners.
There are too many "starts" to my years now. There is the big party on Dec 31/Jan 1, there is the "fiscal year" (same dates shared by many institutions I belong to), the start of the school year (again!). I don't feel like I can just have one cycle any more....but I am a huge fan of fall.

Yes, I imagine you'd like the fall since you don't like the sun all that much.

You know, I didn't remember the Sept-Aug planners until you mentioned them. I should get one because it's really how I mark my time.

Yep, can't wait for those leaves to change. Love it!

Come on, that's the real reason why the year starts in September. :)

Ahhh, I love the fall as well (been a student, still will be for a while). I also started my life in the city in the fall, when on my 1st dates in the fall, make my 1st new friends of the year in the fall, etc. My birthday is also in the fall (September 8th), so yeah, I feel the same. I havn't had the greatest of sunmmers... once the fall starts, classes start, and I'm make to being up and running full speed (but not being run down by it -- that kicks in more my 2nd semester!). Yeah, bring it! I love your attitude. Ah, and no more icky, humid subway stations to wait(sweat) in?? Niiiiice.

The subways are a prime reason I hate summer in NYC.

I keep thinking that if I had the capital, I'd find a nice place in northern Europe over summers to stay cool.
