You and Me

(c) Derik Leong
Her: You're awfully self-involved.
Me: It says right there, "logan lo dot com"
Her: Still...

----------

I like you.

The fact you're reading me makes me like you. That says something about me, I know.

In fact, not only do I know that is says something about me, I know what it says. But that's neither here nor there.

Let's play a game, shall we? I play it all the time when I'm out and about. It's not mine, someone once told it to me. Anyway, I feel we should, cause I like you more than all the people I meet when I'm...doing what I do.
  • Make a list of about five things you admire about someone (or various persons) you love, loved and/or respect.
  • Make a list of about five things that you don't admire/don't respect.
Keep it to yourself, send it to me, tell your mom, it doesn't matter.

We'll talk about it Monday, yeah?

As always, I'm off to bed to lie awake for a while.

Music: home, only just a few miles down the road I can make it, I know I can

S'ok - you know I'd usually be up but I'm trying to get to bed by 1 so I'll be ready for my exam.

I actually slept five hours last night, which, as you know, is pretty good for me.

You know, because you said that, I cross-posted it to Selfportraits.

Thanks!

Make a list of about five things you admire about someone (or various persons) you love, loved and/or respect.

1) You're the only person in my whole life who never made demands on me, never set impossible standards, thought I was fine just the way I was. And I see you doing the same for your daughter and I think it's the best thing she could possibly have going for her in her life.

2) You set just the right amount of structure and discipline for your children, while allowing for the fact that they are children and that they have individual personalities and take in information differently, and you take the time to learn those things and accomodate them while never letting them doubt for a minute that you are in charge.

3) You will take on any task with no thought for who should be doing it instead of you - you just get it done.

4) You're religious without being rabid, moral without being judgmental. You do Christianity a service without even trying.

5) You see wonder and light in everything, including my daily life, and you make me see it too.

Make a list of about five things that you don't admire/don't respect.

1) You take it out on everyone around you when you become overwhelmed, and you refuse to step back and let other people do things so that you WON'T be overwhelmed.

2) You'll never be satisfied with your figure no matter how good you look. You're on a perpetual diet with all the guilt that goes with it.

3) You expect everyone else to want to be around your kids as much as you do and you don't get that some of us are not "kid" people.

4) You don't understand that we're not all bad people just because we don't bend over backwards because of our massive guilt complexes, like you.

5) You're marrying beneath yourself. He's not your soulmate. He's a racist asshole who uses false intellectualism as flimsy justifications for his ideas about black people. Though his "reasoning" would fall apart if subjected to the slightest scrutiny, you don't subject it to scrutiny because you're convinced he's smarter than you and you couldn't possibly know better than he does, just because you're not as articulate as him. He's a fake and I'm worried that he'll infect you with his beliefs as you live with him for the next... lifetime. Please don't let him make you a racist.

This is my mother!! I've been looking for the words to describe how she makes me feel and why she does things the way that she does. She lets people walk all over her and when she sees me sticking up for myself and being confrontational, she accuses me of being a bad person. And while I argue with her about it, secretly I worry that she might be right. I'm relieved to see someone else is in the same situation.
