Black Swan

A Black Swan is an unforeseen event that makes a huge historical impact. The assassination of Franz Ferdinand, 9/11, and the rise of dot coms are considered Black Swans.

But we all have our own personal Black Swans, yeah? Those events that changed everything about our lives completely unexpectedly?

No 6 moved out a year ago this week.

I recorded the above video for my brother after I got back from Baltimore and saw that she, and all her stuff, was gone (nothing risqué; trust me, totally SFW).

I used the spatula to make myself a peanut butter and orange marmalade sandwich. I sat in my empty living room and thought, Well, this is gonna suck. And it did. Really bad.

But it doesn't anymore. When I do think of a girl, she's not the one I think of. I never woulda believed it.

Time and tide changes everything.

Note to self: If you ever live with a chick again, do not throw out your utensils just because her's matches.

Life is good.

Music: My heart was broke, my head was sore, what a feeling

I've gotta get to where you are.

BTW, I set up my parents TiVo to record the Discovery Channel ocean show but that's when it decided to die on me after 6 years. I was gonna post about it at some point.

=)

Never ever trust a girl with matching utensils. And if those utensils match the plates that match the glasses that match her lipstick, RUN.

Ooh - that's so wrong, my sympathies for your past self. :(

(By the way, that just happens to be my favorite way to make a pbj sandwich. What are the odds?)

No, we had arranged for it to happen while I was in Baltimore but it was still quite a shock to come back and see that everything was just...gone!

It was a rough week, that's for sure.

And thanks - so when you gonna update about your life?

I actually threw them out myself because they were utensils I've had since college!

I know what you mean about thinking it'll never get better - it always somehow does, doesn't it?

Hello! =)

When you're in that place, the place where nothing can get worse (and yet it does), that light at the end of the tunnel is always so damned far away. It's only this year-later hindsight that makes you go, hey, I DID make it somehow. I do like that latter feeling but I'd rather avoid the former if I can. :D

Go cry. Then make yourself a PB&J. You'll cry less each day, then all of a sudden a lot more.

Then it gets better. It just does. That's what happens. If you read my older posts, you'll see what happens to me.

She cut it clean and quick - but only at the end. It took two months to get there.

That part was agony.

I shouldn't laugh. I really shouldn't. But you're just so damned genuine about it all...it's kind of funny.

My live-in BF and I are on the outs. My utensils certainly don't match, but they are mine; I brought them into the relationship, and I will leave with them. However, I'll be sure I leave him a butter knife or two, just because of this video.

And dammit leave him a butter knife, fork and spoon! Man, I ate out for a few days just to amass enough plastic utensils to last me a few days...

What a brillant piece of video work. I mean, I know it's genuine and from the heart and a message to your brother and all...but I was touched and laughed all at once.

When you held up that sad plastic spoon and broken spatula I about fell off my chair.

I'm going to have to think about the many black swan moments in my life and if at this point in time I could look at them much more humorously.

But what made you think, 'hey, it's been a year?'

hahahaha - thanks. There are others. I was recording a lot that week just to remember things because I knew I'd forget.

I was thinking about it all because I remember anniversaries AND I spoke to her just last week about the cats and she mentioned that her lease was up so I thought, Wow, has it been a year?

You say "I don't see how this can get worse."
Did it? I mean, of course it did, it's a crazy up and down ride...but did it?
I know for certain that it got better!

That's a great video. You should work that scenario into your next episode of 72nd to Canal--which is coming out when? :)

Oh it got a lot worse. A lot. But then it got better and now I'm totally fine - as you know.

I guess I could post why later.

Yes, we should work in such a scenario - but Rain and I are both swamped with our personal and work lives. Soon!

This entry and video reminded me of the movie True Lies when Tom Arnold was talking about his recent divorce and he said

"When she left the house she took the ice cube trays. What kind of cold heartless bitch takes the ice cube trays"

I am glad you are in a better place now with your own silverware I hope.
