My life in print

Her
: You're good to me.
Me: I like seeing you happy.

Y'remember that client that I told you I just got, King Happy Shrimp Rice, Ltd? Just picked up a national magazine on the newsstand this week and was shocked to learn that it was named one of the best Chinese restaurants in the NY. Damn. I knew I shoulda charged more. (Yes, I changed the name slightly - I'm not insane).

Speaking of which, my ex and two of the other men she was seeing at that time are all journalists so I had the misfortune of running into them all regularly as I read my morning paper. The married dude was in the same paper. Of course. As a weird coda t'all this, got an email today from an ISP telling me that the URL I reserved for when she and I got married expired.

Eh, I'm ok with it.

Damn, I get a lotta junk mail.

Saw Heartgirl for dinner the other night. We ordered delivery and saw a flick - hooked up my computer to her plasma TV. She didn't understand why I didn't just bring a DVD till I explained to her that all my DVDs were converted to computer files. She was ill-prepared for my level of nerd. It was actually so much fun that, if I didn't know better, I'd say we were on a date. But she says we weren't so who am I to argue? I'm seeing her again this week for another non-date, date. Can't explain it cause I don't understand it myself.

Today, woke up early but got to where I needed to be late cause a charming girlie by the pier was distracting me. Of course. Got two new fencing students for some private tutoring so I rushed home to get stabbed and punched. Repeatedly.

More things happened but nuthin that'd interest you.

Her: ...and that's how my four-year old cousin learned the word, Zamboni. The End.
Me: (laughing) You always end your stories with "The End."
Her: Well, that's how you know the story's over, Logan.
Me: (nodding) Of course.

The End

Blech. Fortunatly, all my previous love interests/total jerks aren't that accomplished so I never have to hear anything about them.

Yeah . . . I'm with her. Unless someone explicitly says its a date its not a date. We're very different and you seem to like dates as opposed to hanging out, but in my case it just saves a lot of awkward in the future. I take most invitations to be friendly and usually find out later that the other party had other ideas. So confusion and awkward results and then I say something stupid and they yell at me for leading them on . . . She might have just not wanted any pressure that night for whatever reason.

Yes, I knew it wasn't a date going in. But still, it was easy to forget as we just slip into casual conversations and such. No, she's not leading me on and I'm not the type to sit at home and cry into my porridge.

And yet you can. It was a waste of a perfectly good $20 bill.

You're nearly as nerdy as I am...
careful, once you get to a certain point it slips into common conversation and people give you odd looks.

I already knew the YASYCTAI!! woo!!
Then again, I'm a writer for my living. I should know more than I do when it comes to that kind of thing.

I say "the end" at stories, but usually only when I think the story is funny and I come to the end and everybody is still looking at me and not laughing.

Finally, I'm certain I get more spam than you do. Between 11 p.m. last night and 8 a.m. this morning, I got 126 pieces of it. Hrm, that's actually a slow night for me. There were a few weeks where the subject lines actually made me laugh quite a bit. Now they are back to the normal drivel.

That's why it's 0 points. Are you a writer for your supper? I somehow thought you were an organizer of some sort.

I'm not sure anyone gets more spam than me. It's insane how much I get.

I'm going to start saying "The End" at the end of my stories now too.

What happened with your drama? Are you ok?

My official title is "Communications Specialist" and I was hired for my writing skills, but in a small department you get to wear many hats. I have my layout/design hat, my event planning hat...but I'm not an "organizer" thank goodness.

I made a post about the drama (I just checked, you're in the filter). I'm ok. Feeling better after a family meeting.

you've fallen into the maybe-date trap as well. If she's specifically said 'this is not a date' then its not, no matter how much a good time you have. If she hasn't said that-then its probably a date.

Nope, she definitely said it wasn't a date and I'm no stalker. Still, for a moment or two, I forget.

The non-date date -- guess she can't make up her mind or she's just in denial. As for your nerdiness, isn't that considered a good thing these days...well at least in my book.

Thank goodness it's more socially acceptable to be a nerd these days.

I don't think my body could handle the wedgies at my advanced age...

I knew the YASYCTAI. Although I don't like the use of "irrespective" and generally avoid it anyway.

It's not a date until the other person says it is. Even if you felt like it was a date. Removes all expectations, except that you'll have a good time.

I like "irrespective" very much and use it more than "regardless."

Yes, I try to go into things with no expectations. It makes things that randomly happen that much more interesting.

Hmm, O points for the YASYCTAI, but I knew it so at least it's completed :).

A date seems to be more or less just a label (with implications). If you go in with no expectations like you said in a comment above, then does date vs. non-date really matter as long as you're having fun? Sometimes, calling it a date just makes it more complicated.

Or maybe I'm saying that because I've had non-dates that felt almost like dates, except they couldn't be dates, for multiple reasons. So I guess non-dates could be complicated too. Just thinking out loud...
